Restored niche in the palace at Songo Mnara

Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara are listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, outstanding examples of Swahili architecture and urban form. As such, they are the focus of conservation work and interest from many heritage organizations, as well as key sites for cultural tourists in Tanzania.

As part of our ongoing research at Songo Mnara we have been working with international heritage organizations and community groups to ensure best practice, community involvement, and informed conservation.
